What’s in your GO-BAG?

What’s in your Go-Bag? I’m not talking about that small travel bag that you take on an overnight visit or the one that you cram into the overhead bin on an airplane. And I really don’t mean the bag you keep in the back of the bottom drawer of the filing cabinet at work in case you don’t make it home after having drinks with friends the night before. I’m talking about your emergency evacuation ‘get-the-hell-out-of-Dodge’ GO-BAG! Things have gotten tough enough and unpredictable enough that we really need to consider having a Go-Bag ready ‘just in case’. We’re facing … Continue reading What’s in your GO-BAG?

A journey to fulfillment? Uh, no. Guess what? Distracted again! Caught in a loop! A Journey to Fulfillment stymied. I’ve missed most of them because there’s still just too much to do and I have allowed the outside world to get a toe hold in my focus and my imagination. For instance, … Continue reading A Journey to Fulfillment? Distractions! Caught in a Loop!

Tyranny of New Year’s Resolutions

Tyranny of New year’s Resolutions It’s the time of the year when we fall into the biggest trap we create for ourselves; the New Year’s Resolution. At the changing of the calendar year we are expected to make New Year’s Resolutions. Oh, the tyranny of the New Year’s Resolution!! The expectations that drive the creation of New Year’s Resolutions started 4000 years ago in ancient Babylon.  At their New Year, which wasn’t January but Spring, the idea of rebirth and growth spurred the population to reaffirm the reign of the king, or crown a new monarch.  They also made promises … Continue reading Tyranny of New Year’s Resolutions

A Change is gonna come

Life in the time of Covid-19, a change is gonna come; The world is changing.  Hell, the world has already been marked by quite a few significant shanges!  I started to write this post back in September of 2021. That’s about eight months ago. Things definitely started to change! We had been slapped around by a pandemic, endured a pseudo fascist American President, witnessed violent recognition of systemic racism in North American culture, endured unprecedented forest fires, weathered more hurricanes than most of us have ever seen in a single season, watched floods ravage arable land, and fought through other … Continue reading A Change is gonna come

Your hand in my pocket

Why do I find someone’s hand in my pocket ? It seems like everyone wants a bit of something; a handout, a contribution, a donation, sponsorship or validation that can only come through monetization, and they’re looking in my pocket. As I browse the web, surfing for information and guidance I find that nothing is free anymore. Everyone wants a contribution either in the form of straight up ‘gimme money’ or in the form of donation and subscription fees. There is no free exchange of information. People are trying to monetize their experience and insights using the vehicle of online … Continue reading Your hand in my pocket

Weaponizing Language; Using the "D" word

We learn very early in life how to weaponize language. School yard taunts, the verbal abuse we hurl at our siblings and our peers, the calculated assaults by our bullies begin to show us how language can be a weapon. Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me. “ –English language childhood rhyme How very wrong we are. Missteps and misuse of language can have serious consequences and unforeseen repercussions. Current culture shows us how language can be politicized and weaponized. Here are a couple of links to sites that discuss it; Weaponizing language historically … Continue reading Weaponizing Language; Using the "D" word

Roses really are red

Our garden is coming along nicely, but the best are the roses which are doing extremely well in spite of the heat.  To be fair, we do tend them carefully, ensuring that they have the right amount of moisture and sun light.  The roses are in containers so that they can be moved around in our tiny garden to take full advantage of sun and shade. Roses really ARE red.  The intensity of colour and the scents are very satisfying this year. Continue reading Roses really are red
