Is it time to pivot? I think it’s time to make some transitional choices.

Life will not wait
I’ve tried to keep the digital footprint of Sir5r.com as a deeply personal, introspective chronicle. My sporadic posts on this platform have been my way of documenting the life of a middle-aged white male traversing the intricate and often overwhelming landscapes of cancer survivorship, stroke recovery, and the multifaceted challenges of grandfatherhood. The bracket for ‘middle-aged’ needs to be adjusted to reflect the age and maturation of the site’s main protagonist, ME.
Conducting an audit of the historical content of site pages and blog posts using AI reveals a sporadic publishing cadence characterized by intensely personal reflections. These have included a heartfelt sonnet composed for my life partner’s seventieth birthday, celebrating reinvention; expressions of profound frustration; and candid, vulnerable admissions about external distractions that create speed bumps and loop cycles, thereby stymying the journey toward personal fulfillment.
The autobiographical approach I have taken so far was intended to establish an authentic, relatable voice. Part of my personal vanity is to be Mr. Know-it-all. There are interesting little bits of historical facts tucked into the corners of the blog. I even slipped in things like Akabutu’s recipe for a mouthwash to help oral cancer patients.
The idea of having a relatable authorial voice drive an overarching digital strategy that was never fully realized must mature.
The Power of Pivoting
“Remember the overuse of the term “pivot”? “The word pivot became a beacon for businesses during COVID-19, symbolizing the ability to adapt in the face of adversity. While pivoting can lead to significant gains, it also requires careful consideration and strategic foresight. As businesses continue to evolve in a post-pandemic world, the lessons learned from past pivots can guide future decisions. Knowing when—and how—to pivot remains a critical skill for any business looking to thrive in an ever-changing environment.” (8) The Power of Pivoting: Lessons from COVID-19 and Its Lasting Impact on Businesses | LinkedIn
Oops! I need to pivot to keep this blog and website relevant.
The current objective is to transition to a narrative-driven blog that will be structured, highly authoritative and an engaging community hub with supporting pages.
Evolution is a good thing, right?
This evolution requires moving beyond pure vanity and naive diary entries to delivering consistent, value-driven content that intersects my lived experiences with actionable expertise. Applying a disciplined approach to regular updates to stay current is a significant mandate.
Transitional Choices
By integrating robust new focal points—specifically, navigating the clinical and social realities of throat cancer and Dysphagia, concepts of active aging, cognitive longevity and purposeful retirement, therapeutic impacts of horticulture and other meaningful, intellectually stimulating hobbies and activities as part of active aging—the refreshed content strategy will bridge the gap between personal storytelling and expert-level lifestyle guidance.
Current events will be discussed. Unsolicited advice will be offered. I will continue to act as though I know what I’m doing as a grandfather.
I’m exploring adding a ‘community forum’ to Sir5R.com.
