Here’s the latest panoramic x-ray of my jaw, taken in early May of 2017 by my current dentist. its not a great illustration of everything that has happened in my mouth, but it works for what he needs at the moment.
Highlights;
- that glow in the centre of the image is part of the x-ray apparatus. It’s a bit disconcerting on first blush, isn’t it?
- to the left of the glow is the plate that was used to bolt my lower jaw back together, after they split it.
- starting on the right side of the image and trailing along the image is a fine wire. This was installed as an indicator to the radiation therapists as to where the saliva gland was moved to and which was to be avoided when targeting the radiation/tomography machine.
- on the left of the image you can see a lot of ‘noise’. Those white bits appear to be bits of the staples and sutures that were used to reconstruct my throat and to hold the tissues in place while I healed. I really need to get a better explanation from the surgeon. The dentist was a little surprised and puzzled, and is going to try to do some research to figure out what is going on there, and what we can expect long term.
